Pine Tree Academy (also known as Pine Tree or PTA) is a Seventh-day Adventist, co-educational University preparatory school for boarding and day students in grades K-12. The school is located in Freeport, Maine, north of Portland.

History

Pine Tree was founded in 1974 and is the oldest academy in the Northern New England Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. They have a basketball team that has made it to tournaments at the Augusta Civic Center. PTA has three sports options (soccer, basketball, and baseball) and they play in the Western Class D Boys Basketball conference. Their team name is Breakers.

Academics and Extracurricular Activities

There are a lot of different subjects that students can learn from in their educational programs. The music program includes band, choir, chimes, hand-bells, and private lessons. There is also an industrial arts building dedicated to teaching woodshop and auto shop.

The high school seniors typically go on missionary trips. Thus far, their trips have led them to the Caribbean, Central America, South America, and Africa. The 2006 seniors spent their class trip helping to rebuild Katrina-ravaged areas in the Southern US.
