Ishbak

Ishbak

Ishbak (Hebrew: ish'băk; "he will leave; leaving"), also spelt Jisbak [Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, Hebrew Dictionary, 3435] and Josabak. [Josephus, Flavious, "Antiquities", 1.15.1] He was the fifth son of Abraham, the patriarch of the Israelites, and Keturah whom he wed after the death of Sarah. []

Josephus tells us that "Abraham contrived to settle them in colonies; and they took possession of Troglodytis [In this case the word is applied to the cave dwelling peoples of the Rift Valley] and the country of Arabia the Happy, as far as it reaches to the Red Sea." [Josephus, Flavious, "Antiquities", 1.15.1] Abraham in all probability, tried to keep them appart from Isaac to avoid conflict while fulfilling God's commission to spread out and inhabit the globe. [] [] [Josephus, Flavious, "Antiquities", 1.4.1-3] Little else is known about him, but his descendants may be the people identified in a cuneiform inscription to a people know as "Jasbuqu" ["Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, Volume 1", Review and Herald Publishing Association (Washington, D.C., USA), 1953, p.367] .
