Logitech VX Revolution

Logitech VX Revolution

The Logitech VX Revolution is a wireless, laser, notebook mouse manufactured by Logitech and released in 2006. The VX Revolution is the first mouse to feature a free-spinning scroll wheel, which allows continuous scrolling for several seconds with a single user action. The Logitech MX Revolution is a near equivalent product intended for desktop use.

Features

The MX Revolution and VX revolution are wireless, USB 2.0 mice which operate on the 2.4 GHz band with an operating range of 20 - 30 ft. The VX revolution is powered by a single AA battery. The optical sensor employs a small infrared laser with an advertised sensitivity of 800 dpi.

Other new features include single-button web search, a screen resolution adjuster, a USB receiver which stores inside the mouse itself, and ergonomic enhancements. The mouse has a total of seven buttons, all of them programmable except for the right and left click.

croll Wheel

The most significant new feature of the VX Revolution is the "hyper-scrolling" scroll-wheel, which enables the scroll wheel to spin freely for several seconds, enabling rapid scrolling through long documents or spreadsheets. The design of the scroll wheel a radical departure from existing scroll wheel designs. In order to maximize free-spin time, the VX Revolution employs a rubber-coated alloy wheel which weighs 14 grams, nearly seven times as much as conventional all-polymer scroll wheels. [ [http://www.logitech.com/lang/pdf/ib-microgear_and_smartshift_EN.pdf Logitech Innovation Brief] ] In order to maintain the feel of a lighter, conventional scroll wheel, the wheel is counterbalanced by a spring-based suspension system, which also allows the travel required for push-to-click operation and horizontal scrolling.

The way to toggle between the two modes is by using the switch on the underside of the mouse labelled MicroGear(TM). In the conventional mode of operation, the wheel's motion is governed by the action of a small spring-mounted ratchet mechanism. When the switch is activated, the ratchet mechanism retracts, allowing a free spin for up to seven seconds. Marketing

The VX Revolution is marketed as a general purpose notebook mouse, easier to carry than the MX revolution, made clear due to its smaller size. The VX revolution is not marketed as a replacement for the Logitech G7, Logitech's gaming mouse, or the MX 1000. Rather, it is a new kind of mouse that is a notebook equivalent of Logitech's best mouse. The first suggested retail price ($79)Fact|date=October 2007 suggests that the VX Revolution is targeted towards enthusiasts and early adopters. As of January 2008, the Mouse can be purchased as low as $40 on sale. The VX revolution, unlike the MX revolution, features no Smart shift technology.

Nano

In June, 2007, Logitech released the VX Revolution Nano. It is a smaller version of its predecessor with some new features.

Perhaps the most significant unique feature of the VX Nano notebook mouse is the 2.4 GHz wireless RF receiver. The Nano has what Logitech claims to be the world's smallest USB receiver. While most wireless receivers are about the size of a standard USB flash drive, the portion of the Nano's USB receiver that sticks out of the computer is only seven millimeters long. The receiver is so small that the portion that goes into the USB port is significantly larger than what sticks out of the computer.

Another change was made to the scroll mode changing system. A mechanical way was implemented, so you just have to push the scroll wheel to switch between Hyper-scroll and normal mode.
