"So You Think You Can Dance" is an American television reality program and dance competition airing on the FOX network. Season one premiered January 20, 2005. Nick Lazzarini was announced as the winner on the October 5, 2005 season finale, and received a grand prize of $100,000 and use of an apartment in New York City, New York for one year.

Auditions

Open auditions for America's favorite dancer were held in Chicago, Illinois; New York City, New York; and Los Angeles, California. A total of fifty dancers—25 male and 25 female—who impressed the judges were invited to move on to "Hollywood Week," where their skills were challenged by choreographers Alex Da Silva, Brian Friedman, Dan Karaty, Mia Michaels, and Mary Murphy. From this group, 16 dancers—eight male and eight female—were chosen to move on to the finals.
