Bowie Middle School is a public middle school in Irving, Texas established in the IISD. It provides education material for students in grades 6 - 8 within the school's boundaries. It is the only middle school in the district with a small stadium for local middle and high school football games.

History

This school was first known as Irving Junior High and was established in 1950 and has enrolled 21 7th and 8th graders. In 1952, Irving qualified for a Federal Aid Fund totaling $473,715 by having at least 40% of its parents employed at jobs related to national defense, the funding was used to build a new junior high school south of Irving High and the football stadium. In 1956, Irving Junior High was renamed Bowie Junior High in honor of James Bowie, one of the heroes in the Battle of the Alamo. A second junior high school opened that same year and was named Crockett Junior High after David Crockett, another hero at the Alamo.

In 1972, the two-story eighth grade wing of Bowie Junior High was destroyed by fire and all the 7th grade students, teachers and staff were relocated to Lamar Junior High where they remained until the fall of 1973. A newly rebuilt and remodeled Bowie was dedicated in 1975 and later that same year, sixth-grade classes were added.
