Conway School of Landscape Design

The Conway School of Landscape Design (CSLD), founded in 1972, is a unique, 19 student graduate program in sustainable design and planning, located on a rural 24.5-acre (99,000 m²) campus in Conway, Massachusetts.

The mission of the Conway School of Landscape Design is to explore, develop, practice, and teach design of the land that is ecologically and socially sustainable. The program puts particular emphasis on communication skills and community building. Students work on real projects with real clients at varying scales, from residential to entire watersheds. The Adirondack Park was a recent client, as was a land trust in Chile and a National Park in Panama.

The program has recently hired its third director, Paul Caewood Hellmund, a graduate of the Harvard School of Design. His first year as director was the 2006-07 year. Prior to that, Donald Walker was the director (1992–2005). The founder and first director of the program is Walter Cudnohofsky (1972–1992).
