Dexippus (350AD)

Dexippus (350AD)

:"Not to be confused with Publius Herennius Dexippus" (ca. 210-273 A.D.)

Dexippus (fl. 350) was a Greek philosopher, a follower of the Neoplatonist Iamblichus, belonging to the middle of the 4th century A.D. He wrote commentaries on Plato and Aristotle, of which one, in explanation and defense of the Aristotelian categories, has appeared in both Latin and Greek texts. The former, under the title "Qustionum in Categorias Libri Tres", was edited by Flicien (Paris, 1549); the latter by Spengel (Munich, 1859). In this work Dexippus explains to one Seleucus the Aristotelian Categories, and endeavours at the same time to refute the objections of Plotinus.
