Heather Roy

Heather Roy

The New Zealand politician Heather Roy (5 March1964- ), based in Karori (in Wellington) has served as a Member of Parliament since 2002 and as Deputy Leader of the ACT New Zealand party.

Before entering politics, Roy worked as a physiotherapist. She and her husband Duncan, a doctor, have five children.

In the 1999 elections ACT ranked her tenth on its party list, and she narrowly missed out on a seat in Parliament. In the 2002 elections, however, ranked ninth, she won election as a list MP.

In June 2005, she won promotion from ninth list position to second - even before she became the party's deputy leader.

In 2006 she completed training with the New Zealand Army Territorials. She has continued this training, but the Defence Force has not called on her for deployment.

She recently announced that she planned to contest the electorate of Wellington Central, a seat formerly held by former ACT leader Richard Prebble from 1996 to 1999.
