Caitlin Moran

Caitlin Moran (b. 5 April 1975 Catherine Elizabeth Moran in Brighton) is a British broadcaster and columnist for "The Times".

Early life

Moran went to a Methodist primary school in Wolverhampton, then was educated at home from the age of 11. At the age of 15 in 1990, she won the "Observer"'s Young Reporter of the Year [http://avantgo.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/caitlin_moran/article2933855.ece] .

She began her career as a journalist on "Melody Maker", the weekly music publication, at the age of 16. Moran also wrote a novel called "The Chronicles of Narmo" at the age of 16, about being born into a family of eight home-educated children in Wolverhampton.

In 1992 she launched her UK television career, hosting the Channel 4 music show Naked City. It ran for two series, and featured a number of British bands who have since gained greater success, such as Blur, Manic Street Preachers, and the Boo Radleys. The programme was most notable as roving reporter, Johnny Vaughan went on to become a mainstay of British broadcasting.

The Times

Moran is TV critic and senior current affairs columnist at "The Times", and regularly contributes to the Alphamummy blog. Unlike most columnists and critics, Moran's style is one of enthusiasm and cheerfulness, even writing articles that are very funny. Typical topics include the superiority of "big pants", the wonderfulness of "Doctor Who", what women should refer to their breasts as, and why no-one ever uses a whole large jar of Horlicks.

Personal life

Moran married "Times" rock critic Peter (Panayiotis) Paphides in December 1999 in Coventry and the couple have two daughters - Eavie (born August 2003) and Dora (February 2001).
