*February 21 – The new Garda Síochána training centre is opened in Templemore, County Tipperary.
*March 16Seán Lemass arrives in London to officially launch Ireland Week.
*March 21Brendan Behan's funeral takes place in Dublin.
*May 23President de Valera, An Taoiseach Seán Lemass and An Tánaiste Seán MacEntee attend the official opening of the US Embassy in Dublin.
*May 26 – The Fine Gael parliamentary party approves Declan Costello's "Just Society" programme.
