List of female rulers and title holders

List of female rulers and title holders

This is a list of female rulers and title holders who ruled or reigned over a political jurisdiction in their own right or by right of feudal inheritance.

Each entry will contain the name and dates of reign (where available).

Where necessary, the source of inheritance right will be pointed out, that is, indicate succession rights from either the father, mother, sibling or other relatives. Cases where succession was obtained by other means (usurpation, by marriage, etc.) will also be indicated accordingly.

The list will also include female regents, usually the mother of the ruler, male or female, for they exercised political power during the period of regency on behalf of their child or children (as in the case of Marie de' Medici, Queen of France).
