John William Stokes

John William Stokes, also known as Jack Stokes (born February 1, 1910) was an Australian administrator on Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

Born in Melbourne, the youngest of six children, he was educated at Brunswick and the Christian Brothers College, North Melbourne. He later worked as a clerk in the Victorian Railways and in the Commonwealth Taxation Department. On 31 December 1936 he joined the Northern Territory Police. Married in January 1940, he had five children. He attained the rank of Administrative Inspector when he left the police force to become the Australian Government Official representative on Cocos (Keeling) Islands in 1958. In 1960 he was appointed Official Representative at Christmas Island.

He retired in 1970 and was awarded a MBE for service to the Canberra community.
