Tautinio Darbo Apsaugos Batalionas

Tautinio Darbo Apsaugos Batalionas

Tautinio Darbo Apsaugos Batalionas (TDA) was a Nazi Lithuanian auxiliary police (Lithuanian Hilfspolizei).

During the Nazi occupation of Lithuania, the Provisional Government was authorized to form a so called home guard battalion, which was later expanded into auxiliary police battalions that anti-Soviet resistance fighters were encouraged to join. Members of these battalions were identifiable by white armbands on the sleeves and were known by many names such as 'nationalists', 'rebels', 'partisans', 'police' or 'resistance fighters'. They came under the control of German Einsatzgruppen, whose main task was to protect the German army by cleansing the area of communists and other hostile elements.

Two Lithuanian units were immediately assigned to their mission of rounding up, transporting, guarding, and finally shooting Jews.
