Stephen O'Brien, (born 18 January 1971 in Dublin), is a footballer, currently playing with Eircom League side Shamrock Rovers [http://www.shamrockrovers.ie/squad.php]

Stephen started out playing outfield at Cherry Orchard. His teammates included Tony O'Dowd but when O'Dowd went on holidays they needed a keeper so a legend was born!

After earning underage international caps English clubs started calling. He ended up at Gillingham F.C. where he spent three seasons before having spells at non-league clubs.

He came home and started playing for C.Y.M. Terenure where he played 12 games before his old manager Damien Richardson signed him for Shelbourne. He made his League of Ireland debut keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against Cork City in Turners Cross on the 16th of March 1996.

He then signed for Longford Town in the first division where he went on to win 3 trophies and play in the UEFA Cup keeping one clean sheet in 6 games.

After one unsuccessful season at Bohemian F.C. he joined Shamrock Rovers for the 2007 season as Rovers goalkeeping coach. However he did make his Rovers debut on the 16th of June as Barry Murphy (footballer born 1985) was injured during an FAI Cup game. He then went to make a further 5 appearances in a row keeping a total of 5 clean sheets.

He made another appearance on the 5th of October 2007 as Barry Murphy was suspended. He hasn't appeared since.
