Farnham is a village in
North Dorset, in the south of England, situated on Cranborne Chasenine miles north east of Blandford Forum. The village has a populationof 205 (2001). Augustus Pitt Riverslived nearby on the Rushmore Estate. Following his donation of some 20,000 antiquities to the University of Oxfordin 1884, forming the nucleus of the Pitt Rivers Museum, he continued to collect archaeologicaland ethnologicalspecimens for his personal collection at Tollard Farnham, about ½ mile from Farnham village centre [ [http://history.prm.ox.ac.uk/collector_pittrivers.html Augustus Henry Lane Fox Pitt Rivers biography at the Pitt Rivers Museum History, 1884 - 1945 ] ] .
