Lawrence Dial (born in Rochester, New York) is a playwright living in New York. His play "Old Kid Cod" was performed at The American Theatre of Actors in late June 2007. His play "BEEF" was performed as part of the Crown Point Festival at the Abrons Art Center, October 2007. [ [http://crownpointfestival.org/module-EventManager2-display-eid-83.html Crown Point Festival: Beef] ] "BEEF" was subsequently produced (in an expanded two-act version) by Slant Theatre Project in May 2008 at 78th Street Theatre Lab. Jason S. Grossman of nytheatre.com wrote, "BEEF is a powerful new play... Dial's provocative script crackles from page one... Director Adam Knight has done an excellent job in allowing the taut script to simmer and explode... 78th Street Lab Theatre has never been put to better use" [http://www.nytheatre.com/nytheatre/showpage.php?t=beef6823 nytheatre.com review of "BEEF"] ] .

The son of Barbara and David Dial, he was raised in Newburgh, Indiana, with his brother, lawyer Beau Dial, and, twin sisters, college students Mary and Charlotte. He graduated from the University of Evansville, where he met long-time collaborator and actress Kelli Giddish (All My Children, The Burg).

His plays include: "Slight Rebellion of Madison (again), The Word "Amazing" Comes To Mind, Fish Have No Eyelids, Kings Wait In Time; Aces Take Their Pick, Arts Fucking Crafts, The Fort, and A Horse and Duck."

His newest play HOLLOW LOG is scheduled to open January 15, 2009 at The View Theater.

His plays often involve the use of slang, jargon, or invented language.

Dial lives on Avenue D in New York City.
