Destiny's Forge

Destiny's Forge

"Destiny's Forge" is a 265,000 word science fiction novel by Paul Chafe released in 2006 by Baen Books. It is the twelfth book in the "Man-Kzin Wars" series (itself part of Larry Niven's Known Space universe) and the first full-length novel in the series. Publicity for Destiny's Forge stated that the book covers the events of the sixth-and-final war between men and Kzinti; however the book itself never actually states which war in particular it is chronicling, and would seem to contradict some established facts of the wars, of which there were four. Internal details would seem to indicate that it actually takes place during the third war. In any event, it expands greatly on many of the concepts developed within Known Space by Niven, including the Wunderland Treatymaker and the Teela Brown luck gene. Significantly, the book features examples of the Kzinti 'dots and commas' script in the chapter headings representing the first official view of the written form of the Kzinti language.
