William Osler Abbott

William Osler Abbott (1902-1943) was a notable United States physician. His most notable contribution to the field of medicine was his part in the development of the Miller-Abbott tube. A Miller-Abbot tube has two lumens, with one ending in a small collapsible balloon and the other in a metallic tip with numerous small openings. Its primary uses are for decompression and stenting of the small intestine.

He was the son of Dr. Alexander C. Abbott and Georgina Osler, niece of Sir William Osler. He married Lucy Waldo Abbott and had three children Thomas William Osler Abbott, Ann Gatewood Abbott and Lucy Featherstone Abbott.
