Alakozai

The Alakozai are a sub-tribe of the Abdali Pashtuns of Afghanistan. They are one of four sub-tribes belonging to the Zirak branch of the Tareen - Bor TareenFact|date=August 2008 Abdalis. The tribe derives its name from its progenitor, AlakoFact|date=August 2008, who was the son of Zirak KhanFact|date=August 2008.

The Alakozai are found primarily in Helmand and KandaharFact|date=August 2008 provinces in southern Afghanistan.

Alakozai, also spelled Alakozay, is a Pashtoon clan, belonging to Afghanistan primarily in Kandahar. The Alakozaan (plural) derived from a man whose name was Alako. His name passed on to his sons and the name is spread paternally. So if the father is from the Alakozai tribe the children are therefore Alakozaan.

They are part of the Durrani, Tareen, Bor Tareen ancestry which also consists of Barakzai, Yusufzai etc. Primarily the tribes with the "zai" extension. Also one of the biggest tribes in all of Kandahar
