Imagina of Isenburg-Limburg

Imagina of Isenburg-Limburg

Imagina of Isenburg-Limburg (d. 29 September, 1313?) was the Queen consort of Adolf of Nassau-Weilburg, King of Germany.

Family

She was born to Gerlach I of Isenburg and Imagina of Blieskastel. Her father held power over Limburg on the Lahn.

Her paternal grandparents were Heinrich I of Isenburg and his wife Irmingard of Büdingen, Countess of Cleeberg.

Heinrich was son of Gerlach of Isenburg and a wife of the Leiningen family.

Gerlach was a namesake son of a senior Gerlach of Isenburg who served as Vogt (Protector) of Trier from c. 1130 to 1147.

The Vogt of Trier was son of Rembold of Isenburg and his wife of the Arnstein family. His maternal grandfather was Ludwig, Count of Arnstein.

Rembold was a son of Gerlach, Count of Rommersdorf, an ancestor of the House of Isenburg.

Marriage

Imagina married Adolf of Nassau-Weilburg, son of Walram II of Nassau and Adelheid of Katzenelnbogen. Her husband succeeded his father as Count of Nassau in 1276. They had eight children:

# Heinrich, died young.
# Ruprecht, died 2 December 1304
# Gerlach I of Nassau-Wiesbaden.
# Adolf (1292 – 1294).
# Walram III of Nassau-Wiesbaden.
# Adelheid, Abbess of Klarenthal, died 26 May 1338.
# Imagina, died young.
# Matilde (before 1280 – 19 June 1323, Heidelberg), married Rudolf I "der Stammler", Duke of Upper-Bavaria.

Her husband was elected King of Germany and crowned on 2 June, 1292, at Aachen. However he was killed in the Battle of Göllheim (2 July, 1298) while fighting against rival claimant Albert I of Habsburg.

Imagina survived her husband by almost two decades but never remarried.
