Leroy S. Johnson

Leroy S. Johnson

Leroy S. Johnson (June 12, 1888November 25, 1986) was the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS Church), a religious group that practices plural marriage and was based in Colorado City, Arizona.

While Johnson is today recognized as a prophet of the FLDS Church, he only elusively made reference to his prophetic status. For example, he said, "You have heard other men call me a prophet, but you have never heard me make the claim." [Sermon given in 1980 recorded by Benjamin Bistline. Bistline, "History of Colorado City", p. 102]

While acting as the prophet, Johnson dismissed J. Marion Hammon and Alma Adelbert Timpson from the Council of Friends. [ [http://mormonfundamentalism.com/ChartLinks/LeroySJohnson.htm Leroy S. Johnson ] ]

Following Johnson's death, Rulon Jeffs succeeded him as the leader of the FLDS Church.
