Paulsgrove Primary School, situated to the north-west of
Portsea Island , was built to serve a new housing development made necessary by the number of people made homeless through bombing during theSecond World War . Built at the onset of theCold War it was designed so that in the event of an enemy attack on the nearby naval base it could double up as a field hospital.
