"Branigan" is the first album by singer Laura Branigan, released in 1982 (see 1982 in music). Although the album's first single, "All Night With Me," was not a big hit on the charts, its second single, "Gloria," made the singer a star. The original version of "Gloria" was a hit only in Italy, but Branigan's version of the song became an international hit. The song's combination of American and European sound predated pop's second "British Invasion" by several months and became one of the biggest hits of the decade. The album also included ballads "If You Loved Me" and the self-penned "I Wish We Could Be Alone," which gave surprise to Disco fans who found the singer to be as comfortable with her vulnerability as with her strength. Meanwhile, the pop-rock "Please Stay, Go Away" and the straight-ahead rock of "Living A Lie" was a treat for lovers of the energy and gusto of her hit. The album went gold and the single gold, and then platinum. Further heralding her arrival, her vocal performance of "Gloria" was nominated for a Grammy award.
