Episode recap

Jon takes Odie and a reluctant Garfield on a camping trip. On the way to the campsite, Garfield hears a radio ad about a traveling circus and suggests that they go there instead, but he changes his mind when he later learns that Binky the Clown and his dancing circus bear will be there. Jon intends for all of them to be “roughing it” while camping, but upon arriving at the site, he discovers that Garfield and Odie have brought groceries, home conveniences and even a duplicate house.

Later that evening, during a hot dog roast, Odie hears growling in the distance, but Jon assures him that there is no danger. Garfield tells him otherwise, and the two of them then go walking through the forest. They soon come along bear footprints, and while Garfield hides, Odie follows the prints into a cave. Garfield reluctantly goes after him and finds what appears to be the remains of Binky.

Binky’s circus bear then appears and chases them all the way past the campfire (just as Jon pulls his guitar out to sing an after-dinner song), and the bear soon chases Jon as well. At one point they appear to be trapped; then Jon questions why the bear is wearing a circus collar. Garfield explains that he is Binky’s dancing circus bear, and he instructs Jon to play a song. Jon does, and the bear begins dancing until Binky appears and scolds the bear for running away. Jon quickly resumes the song, and the bear resumes dancing; then he pulls Garfield and Binky in to dance with him.

Some time later, the song is still going on, and everyone is tired except the bear. Jon asks Binky when he can stop singing, and Binky tells him that he can stop when the bear’s trainer comes to get him—two weeks later, when his vacation ends.

Quotes

Garfield: Only someone really dumb would enjoy a week in the woods. ["Odie walks up in camping gear"] He never misses a cue.

Garfield: They should have special campfire instructions for TV dinners.

Garfield: There’s plenty to be afraid of. Out in the woods here, they have pumas who "love" to play camper buffet. ["Odie whimpers"] Plus, there are snakes, and wolves, and monsters, and little girls in uniforms who make you buy cookies…
