Boston Emergency Medical Services (Boston EMS) provides advanced life support (ALS) and ambulance transport for the city of Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Boston EMS is a bureau within the Boston Public Health Commission, and employs over 300 emergency medical technicians (EMT) and paramedics [ [http://www.bostonems.com/ Boston EMS Main Page ] ] . Boston EMS is a separate agency from the Boston Fire Department. Boston EMS only hires EMTs, and then promotes paramedics from within the department.

History

Boston EMS traces its history to the Boston City Hospital Ambulance Service, formed in 1892 [http://www.bostonems.com/history.html] .

Regimental Pipes and Drums Corps

The Boston EMS Regimental Pipes and Drums Corps is the only dedicated EMS pipe and drum band in the United States, and was formed in 1998 [http://www.bostonems.com/pipesdrums/pipesnaemt.htm] .
