Kingston Russell

Kingston Russell is a large mansion house and estate near Long Bredy in Dorset, England, west of Dorchester. The house dates from the late 17th century but in 1730 was clad in a white Georgian stone facade. The house was restored in 1913, and at the same time the gardens were laid out. The house is on land which was granted to the Russell family, ancestors of the Duke of Bedford, by Edward III in the 14th century. John Russell, who served Henry VII and Henry VIII, built a manor house here. The house remains in private ownership and is not open to the public.

Sir Thomas Hardy, captain in Lord Nelson's navy, was possibly born in the house in 1769.
