Alan Browne

Alan Browne (born 1973) is a former Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with Cork and Blackrock in the 1990s and 2000s.

John Browne was born in Blackrock just outside Cork in 1973. He was educated locally and later worked as an auctioneer with his former Cork team mate Kevin Murray. Browne played his club hurling with Blackrock, a very famous hurling club in Cork. With Blackrock he won Cork SHC titles in 1999, 2001 and 2002.

Browne's skill was quickly spotted by the Cork inter-county selectors. He won a Munster under-21 title with Cork in 1993 before later joining the senior panel. In 1998 he won a National Hurling League medal. In 1999 Browne came on as a substitute to win his first Munster title. He later came on as a substitute to win his first All-Ireland medal following a victory over Kilkenny. In 2000 Browne captured a second Munster title, however, Cork were beaten by Offaly in the All-Ireland semi-final. In 2003 Browne was captain of the inter-county hurling team when he won a third Munster title. Unfortunately his side were later defeated by Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. Shortly after this Browne decided to retire from inter-county hurling.
