ViBGYOR is an international short & documentary film festival held annually in Thrissur, Kerala, India.

The festival celebrates the vagaries of identity and the richness of its embodied diversity in the Festival of Short and Documentary films. The four-day Film festival invests not just in the banquet of films of value and sense but strives to make the event a rich visual and intellectual experience in interfacing with filmmakers, activists, peoples' movement leaders and academicians from as divergent streams of life and activities.

ViBGYOR Package has seven themes, highlighting the colours of the rainbow. They are: Indigenous people, Dalit Reality, Gender & Sexuality, Fundamentalism v/s Diversity, Nation State, Globalization and Region Focus(South Asia).

Background

ViBGYOR Film Festival is the biggest Alternate Film festival Organised by various civil society organisations in India featuring short films and documentaries, apart from the government sponsored Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). ViBGYOR is a following the vikalp tradition to showcase films which are based on the very people based issues packaged with the title Identities & Diversities. It is organized by various Civil society Organisations, film societies , Local self governance and interested individuals in and around Thrissur, mainly Chetana Media Institute, Global Alternate Information Applications, Nottam Traveling Film Festival and Abhivyakti Media for Development with the idea of celebrating identities and diversity.

This festival was a logical continuation of the Film Festivals, Small Films in a Smaller World of February 2004 to Gargi Women Film Festival of May 2005.

The inaugural edition of ViBGYOR Film Festival was held from February 22-25, 2006 in Thrissur. The Second Edition of ViBGYOR is to be held from 10th to 13th of May 2007 at the Sangeetha Nataka Akademy Campus (Regional Theatre & Natyagruham), Thrissur. This year 'Festival to the People' is also being introduced, creating a parallel venue in Pananchery Panchayath, not far from Thrissur town, where films will be screened and filmmakers will meet people face to face.

Festival to the people

The high point of ViBGYOR-07 is the Village Festival at Pananchery panchayath, the largest panchayath in Kerala. Documentary and short films are taken to the people in the suburbs and villages, who don’t have access to the gala melas in the town, but are vibrant with the same experiences of life and political perspectives that these films put forward.
