He has now directed at more than 25 Opera Houses worldwide, including English National Opera (ENO), Welsh National Opera (WNO), the Royal Opera House (ROH), Glyndebourne, La Monnaie (Brussels), Amsterdam, the Bavarian State Opera (Munich) and the Opéra National de Paris. He received the Opernwelt Production of the Year award for "Giulio Cesare" (1994) and Laurence Olivier Awards for "Hansel and Gretel" at WNO, "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk" for the ROH and "The Trojans" for ENO. In 2000, Jones was awarded Designer of the Year with Antony McDonald for "Un ballo in maschera" in Germany. He was nominated for a South Bank Show award for his production of "The Queen of Spades" at WNO and for an Olivier Award for "Pelleas and Melisande" at ENO.
