Ben Roberts is a New Zealand Rugby League player currently playing club football for the Bulldogs. He made his international debut for the New Zealand national rugby league team on Friday, 20th April at the 2007 Anzac test against the Australia national rugby league team in Brisbane.

Biography

Ben Roberts was educated at Patrician Brothers' Fairfield, alongside Tigers' Winger Dean Collis. Equipped with good hands and amazing footwork, Roberts made a mark during his six first grade games last season. He is the cousin of Socceroos midfielder Tim Cahill. He is of Samoan descent.

Joining the Bulldogs in 2006 as a five-eighth, Ben was originally recruited from Western Suburbs before became a regular member of the Premier League team. In 2007 he has started in halfback in the early rounds due to injury to regular playmaker Brent Sherwin. With Sherwin's return from injury and form, Roberts has shifted to five-eighth, competing against Daniel Holdsworth.

Ben has now signed up to the Bulldogs until the end of 2009.

Controversy

On 12 July, 2007, Ben Roberts was convicted of drink driving by a Sydney court. In Sutherland Local Court, Roberts pleaded guilty to driving with a blood alcohol level of .03 while driving with a "P-Plate" licence that required no alcohol in his system. He also entered guilty pleas to charges of driving an unregistered vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle and for not displaying his P-plates.cite web
