Andriy Shevchenko (politician)

Andriy Shevchenko ( _uk. Андрій Шевченко) (born June 10, 1976) is a current deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament.

Andriy Shevchenko was born in the village of Hvizdets in Prykarpattia (Ukraine) and spent his young years in Fastiv, near Kiev. He graduated from Institute of Journalism in Kiev, and also studied at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Shevchenko has worked as a multi-media journalist since 1994 for the 1+1 TV Channel, Novyi Kanal, and Radio Voice of America. In 2002 he left Novyi Kanal under political pressure. In 2003 he introduced his idea of creation Channel of Honest News (Канал чесних новин). He now works in 5 kanal as a news announcer.

In 2005 he was appointed vice-president of National Television Company of Ukraine, but left this position in 2006. After the 2006 Ukrainian Parliamentary Elections he became deputy of the Verkhovna Rada. He is a member of the BYUT parliamentary fraction.

Shevchenko was named a "world fellow" of Yale University in May, 2007 [Yale University Bulletin and Calendar, http://www.yale.edu/opa/v35.n28/story3.html] .
