FINA Youth World Swimming Championships

FINA Youth World Swimming Championships

The FINA World Youth Swimming Championships is a swimming championship event for "youth" under the age of 18 years old. It is held biennially, in even years since 2006.

It should be noted that the term "youth" in the event's name is parallel to the use of the word in the newly created Youth Olympics, and not the pre-existing term used in the aquatics community. "Junior" is the term within swimming that would be more accurate (14-18 year-olds), as "youth" (10-14) typically falls under junior.

It should be also noted that the announcement of the awarding of the 2010 edition termed the event "3rd FINA Junior Swimming Championships" [cite web|url=http://www.fina.org/project/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1565&Itemid=107 |title=FINA Press Release #2008-59: FINA Bureau Meeting |accessdate=2008-10-05] . This announcement was made at the FINA Bureau's selection of Lima, Peru as host for the event.
