Iroquois County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. As of 2000, the population was 31,334. Its county seat is Watseka, IllinoisGR|6.

It is the only county in the United States to be named Iroquois, named for the American Indian Tribe.

Geography

According to the US Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,118 square miles (2,896 km²), of which, 1,116 square miles (2,892 km²) of it is land and 2 square miles (4 km²) of it (0.14%) is water.

History

Iroquois County was formed in 1833 out of Vermilion County. It was named for the Iroquois people.
