Steve Irwin (born 19 June 1983) is a rugby league player.

Career

Steve Irwin, affectionately nicknamed 'Croc' after the TV personality the Crocodile Hunter of the same name, has made a remarkable rise to first grade football in just 5 years. Irwin spent much of his youth playing soccer before picking up Rugby League at the age of 14. He represented Australian Schoolboys in 2000 after being a state rep in soccer and cricket earlier on.

He moved to the Canberra Raiders. On 19 May 2007, he was suspended for being involved in a high-speed car chase through Canberra. (See Controversy section)

Controversy

On 18 May, 2007, Steve Irwin was with his teammate, Todd Carney when Carney decided to drive in Irwin's ute, despite Carney having been disqualified from driving at the time. Police began to pursue the vehicle in a high-speed chase through the back streets of the Canberra suburb of Bruce. After turning into a dead-end street, Carney stopped the car and fled the scene on foot, leaving Irwin in the passenger seat. Irwin told police Carney was the driver.>cite news |url = http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/raiders/banned-until-2012/2007/06/13/1181414347961.html
