R402 road

The R402 road is a Regional Route in the Ireland, linking the M4 at Enfield, County Meath to the R420 east of Tullamore in County Offaly [ [http://www.transport.ie/upload/general/7617-0.pdf Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) Order 2006] - [http://www.transport.ie/ Department of Transport] ] .

Route

It starts (heading west) in the centre of Enfield; crosses the R148 and M4 at a complex (tolled) junction at the edge of the town.

Immediately enters County Kildare at Johnstown Bridge, then through Kilshanchoe to Carbury where it meets the R403 just beside the source of the River Boyne at "Trinity Well". Heads west to Edenderry, where it crosses the Grand Canal.

Continues west, entering Daingean running along the south bank of the Grand Canal. from there it heads southwest to the R420, where it ends.

Improvements

The "R402 Enfield to Edenderry Improvement Scheme" will result in the construction of 10.2 km of two-way single carriage road [ [http://kildare.ie/CountyCouncil/PressReleases/PressReleases2006/October/LinkToPressRelease,12344,en.doc R402 Enfield to Edenderry Improvement Scheme] - [http://www.kildare.ie/countycouncil/ Kildare County Council] ] . Carbury village will likely be bypassed by this new route.
