John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School is a Roman Catholic high school located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is an all girls high school.

History

In the 1800s the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia discussed the need to form schools to educate young Catholic girls in the Delaware Valley. In 1901 Father McDevitt and Mrs. Mary McMichan then founded five "High School Centers". The building of these five "High School Centers" then led the way to the building of the Catholic Girls High School in 1911. After Mrs. Mary McMichan died the school's name was changed to John W. Hallahan High Catholic Girl's High School, after her brother as she requested. It is the first Catholic high school for girls in the country. Hallahan uses Mickey Mouse, a registered Disney character, as a mascot [http://www.jwhallahan.com/store/img/l/htb2.jpg] . The most recognizable tradition of jumping into the fountain at Logan Circle started back in the 1960's and continues every year on the last day of the school year. The newly appointed Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores jump into the Swann Memorial Fountain and attract the local media in Philadelphia.
