He played during the 1980s and the 1990s in the Spanish League. After playing for
Deportivo Alavés and Sestao, he was transferred toRCD Espanyol in 1986 and then in 1988 he became anFC Barcelona player, where he won aSpanish Cup and aUEFA Cup Winners' Cup . In 1990, Valverde left Barcelona forAthletic Bilbao , where he played for six seasons before moving to his final club,RCD Mallorca . He retired after the 1996-97 season.The Manager
In 1997 he began his career as a Football Manager in the youth departments of
Athletic Bilbao . Three years later (2000) he became a co-trainer inAthletic Bilbao . In 2002 he became manager of Athletic Bilbao B team. A year later he became manager of the first team ofAthletic Bilbao finishing 5th that year in Primera DivionLa Liga . In 2006 he became a manager ofRCD Espanyol and played with them in the final ofUEFA Cup againstSevilla where he lost in the penalty shootout.On 28 May 2008, Valverde was appointed byOlympiacos FC .External links
