Pen Hadow (born Rupert Nigel Pendrill Hadow on the 26 February 1962) is a British polar explorer and author.

Hadow was educated at Harrow where he was Deputy Head of School and Head of House in The Park. While at Harrow, he reinstated the tradition of Long Ducker. This is a marathon-length run from Harrow-on-the-Hill to Marble Arch and back. The feat hadn't been completed in over 50 years.

In 2003 he became the first person to walk the 478 miles solo from the northern coast of Canada to the North Pole [ [http://www.adventurestats.com/tables/npuns.shtml AdventureStats - by Explorersweb ] ] .

In 2007 he announced he is returning to the Arctic ice cap to undertake a major survey of the thickness of the remaining ice to help scientists determine how long the polar ice cap will exist before it ceases to become a permanent feature on the planet [ [http://www.thearcticsurvey.com Home - Arctic Survey ] ] . The expedition -- now called the Catlin Arctic Survey after Catlin Group Limited, an internationa insurance and reinsurance company signed on as lead sponsor -- will be led by Hadow, accompanied by two other experienced Arctic explorers, Ann Daniels and photographer Martin Hadley [ [http://www.catlin.com/cgl/media/press_releases/pr_2008/2008-09-03/ Catlin Group Press Release: Catlin Announces Title Sponsorship of Major £3 Million Arctic Survey] ] .

The survey will include an extensive program of detailed scientific measurements and observations of the thickness of the permanent Arctic ice. The measurements will be taken as part of a pioneering surface survey over a 1,200-mile(2,000-kilometre) route from the Canadian coast to the North Geographic Pole.
