Ministry of New and Renewable Energy

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is a government ministry of India. The ministry is headed by Vilas Muttemwar, a Minister of State (independent charge). The ministry was established as the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources in 1992. It adopted its current name in October 2006.

The Ministry is responsible mainly for research and development, intellectual property protection, and international cooperation, promotion, and coordination in renewable energy sources such as wind power, small hydro, biogas, and solar power.
