Success, New Hampshire

Success is an unincorporated township located in Coos County, New Hampshire, USA. It is located directly to the east of the city of Berlin, New Hampshire, and borders on the state of Maine. Success is part of the Berlin, NH–VT Micropolitan Statistical Area.

As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 2. According to the United States Census Bureau it is one of only 5 places in the United States with a population of two people. The others are Twombly, Maine; Hove Mobile Park, North Dakota; Oil Springs Reservation, Cattaraugus County, New York; and Monowi, Nebraska.

As of 2005, one of the larger land owners in Success is the Androscoggin Valley Regional Refuse Disposal District.

History

Success was granted in 1779 and contained about convert|90472|acre|km2|lk=on|1. The grantees were Benjamin Mackay and about seventy others.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of convert|59.2|sqmi|km2|lk=on|1, of which convert|58.8|sqmi|km2|abbr=on|1 is land and convert|0.5|sqmi|km2|abbr=on|1, or 0.81%, is water.

The highest point in the township is the summit of Mount Success, a peak in the Mahoosuc Range with an elevation of convert|3565|ft|m|lk=on above sea level.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there is one married couple living in the township. Both are white and between 45 and 64, and their median age is 50 years. Because there are a number of summer cabins (called "camps" in New England), there are 71 housing units at an average density of 1.2/sq mi (0.5/km²).
