Senator Burrage is the son of former United States District Judge Michael Burrage, and the nephew of State Auditor and Inspector Steve Burrage. tate Senate

Sean Burrage was first elected to the State Senate in 2006. During the 2007 session in a committee hearing Burrage broke ranks with democrats and voted against SB 807 which would have reformed the predatory lending practices of payday loan operations. Republican Sen. Coates votes for the bill, so it died 4-4 in committee, but with Burrage's vote would have likely passed in the full Senate.cite web | url=http://okinsider.com/topic_01NU0ZBFWQ/readstory.oki?storyid=00K1A29JF| title=Tie vote kills Rice's payday loan bill | publisher= OKInsider: okinsider.com | accessdate=2007-04-28]
