Paral·lel (Barcelona Metro)

Paral·lel (Barcelona Metro)

Paral·lel is the name of a Barcelona metro station, currently the southern terminus of L2 and also served by L3. The two lines are side by side to facilitate transfer, with a direct connection between Zona Universitària (L3) and Pep Ventura (L2) platforms.

The station used to be the interchange between L3 (towards Catalunya) and L3b (towards Sants), which were electrified in different ways (L3 by overhead catenary and L3b by a third rail), the current L2 platforms being served by L3b, and the station was called Puebloseco. The lines were unified in June 1982, when the station became known as Paral·lel (and the station previously known as Parlamento became known as Poble Sec). It was built under Avinguda del Paral·lel, between Ronda de Sant Pau and Carrer Nou de la Rambla, and has two levels. The station also offers a direct link to Funicular de Montjuïc from the access on the crossing between Avinguda del Paral·lel and Carrer Nou de la Rambla.
