Group 9 Rugby League

Group 9 is a rugby league competition in New South Wales, Australia based around the surrounding areas of Wagga Wagga. It is run under the auspices of the Country Rugby League. The Competition is now played in four Grades, Under 16, known as the Sullivan Cup, Under 18, known as the Weissel Cup, Reserve Grade, known as the Burmiester Shield and the XXXX Gold Group 9 First Grade.

History

Group 9 Rugby League was formed at a meeting in Harden On Friday, April, 27, 1923. The foundation of the group was held in the 'Grand Hotel' Harden - owned then by a Mr Don McLean. The meeting was convened by the Harden-Murrumburrah Rugby League Club. The first president of Group 9 was Mr MP O'Brien, the Hon. Treasurer Mr JW Worner and the Hon. Secretary Mr LG Arthur, all of whom lived in Harden. The clubs represented were Junee, Temora, West Wyalong, Murrumburrah, Young, Harden, Wambanumba, Monteagle, Cootamundra, Gundagai, Binalong and Barmedman.
