The Brewery (Music Venue)

The Brewery (Music Venue)

The Brewery is a 300-capacity music venue located on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Brewery was opened in 1983 by Kenny Hobby.

The Brewery has long been a stop for up-and-coming touring acts, as well as established acts with a somewhat diminished fan base.

The Brewery has played host to bands such as Jane's Addiction, Korn, Sheryl Crow, Hootie and the Blowfish, Butch Walker and Ryan Adams. In the 80s, The Brewery was pivotal in the hardcore punk movement, as documented in the 2006 Sony Pictures release, "American Hardcore (film)". During this time, acts such as Corrosion of Conformity and Black Flag took the stage at The Brewery, often during Sunday afternoon matinees.

From 2002 - 2004, the venue seemed to be struggling financially and artistically. With a changing music scene, The Brewery was struggling to bring in the rising stars that had made the venue successful. The club eventually closed in early April 2004.

In June 2004 the doors re-opened, this time with a new owner and manager. Since that time, The Brewery has seen a revival, bringing in established groups such as King's X and Metal Church. In addition, bands on the rise have made their way through The Brewery. Panic! at the Disco, Cartel (band), Paramore, Augustana, Bury Your Dead, Armor for Sleep, Boys Like Girls, and many more have played The Brewery.
