Corofin(Cora Finne in Irish) is a village and parish in County Galway, Ireland, situated on the N17 road between Galway city and Tuam.

Attractions

Corofin Castle is approximately 700 years old although is partly in ruins.

Sport

Corofin has an illustrious history in Gaelic football with Corofin GAC having been crowned All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship winners in 1998. They have won 14 Galway Senior Football Championship titles from 1932, 1946, 1977, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2008,2009 and 2011. Their team of the nineties was the most successful, winning the county title five times and the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. This was followed by five more wins during the noughties. They have gone on to win the Connacht Senior Football Championship on four occasions; 1991, 1995, 1997 (which lead to the 1998 All Ireland title) and 2008.

A Corofin native, Bishop Patrick Duggan of Clonfert, declined the honour of being the first Patron of the GAA, giving the honour to the younger man, Archbishop Thomas Croke of Cashel.
