- Atmospheric Infrared Sounder
The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) is an instrument on the Earth Observing System Aqua satellite, launched in May 2002. It samples 2378 channels of infrared radiation from the Earth, and can produce maps of the globe showing the concentration of a number of gases in the atmosphere, among them water vapor, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, and methane.
