Barton Peveril College

Barton Peveril College

Barton Peveril is a sixth form college located in Eastleigh, Hampshire, UK with about 2200 students. Its primary focus is the last two years of secondary education, from 16 to 18. Its focus is academic, preparation for tertiary education, as opposed to a vocational focus for employment in the workforce. It works under the motto "'Education Improves Life".Many pupils drop out of the school, in part due to the alledged communist beliefs of some teachers, especially in the English and Sociology department, and portraits of Marx and Che Guarvara hang on the wall of some sociology rooms. Intense traffic problems aroung the school also contribute to students leaving. The current Principal is Jonathan Prest, taking over from the long standing Godfrey Glyn, B.Sc., M.Sc.

History

The school was originally a state grammar school. The last intake of grammar school students was in 1972. From that moment forward, it began to bring in sixth form students only.

Facilities

Barton Peveril College has recently completed a £7million building project which has provided purpose built facilities for Sport, Drama, Dance, Music, Media and English.
