Seelow is the capital of the German Märkisch-Oderland district of Brandenburg, Germany.

Geography

It is situated in the very east of Germany, 40 miles east of Berlin, 10 miles west of the boundary to Poland.

History

It is famous for being the place of one of the last big pitched battles in Europe during the World War II - the Battle of Seelow Heights. In this Battle from April 16th to 18th in 1945 Soviet troops under Marshal Zhukov opened the way to Berlin but suffered great losses.
