Originally fromMiami, FL where she was born and raised, she is a formerMiss Florida and in 1999 she was second runner-up in theMiss America contest where she won over $50,000.00 in scholarship money. During the contest, she was awarded with several special scholarships including the Bernie Wayne Talent Award and the Preliminary Swimsuit Award, her local title before winning the Miss Florida crown wasMiss Miami . Gonzalez is a graduate of theUniversity of Miami where she double majored in broadcast journalism and music-vocal performance. Gonzalez is ofCuban-American heritage and she continues to be very close to her large family back in Miami.During the Miss America contest, Gonzalez displayed her singing talent and claims that she entered the contest in pursuit of a career in singing. While in
New York she was in an off-Broadway musical titled "4 Guys Named Jose and una Mujer Named Maria" where she played the lead Maria, she received rave reviews from The New York Times, The New York Post and Entertainment Weekly. She also had the opportunity to record with Grammy-award winning producers in Miami, New York, and Los Angeles. She also had the honor to be featured in an article of the Miami baseSelecta Magazine in the September 2008 issue, where they interviewed her and commented on her fashion sense.Gonzalez worked at KTLA 5 from March 2006 to July 2007, after which she returned to Miami and began working with CBS4 and My 33. Prior to joining KTLA, she held a number of different positions such as reporting for "EXTRA, Weekend Edition," "Extra en Espanol," "Livin' Large," "La Vida a lo Grande," "Miami Hoy," "FYE Music Network," and "The Sports Authority Network." She also had broadcast experience as a freelance reporter for Telemundo 51 and NBC 6 in the Miami area. In addition to her duties on Prime News, she was the host of KTLA's "TraffiCast," a weekday webcast providing the latest details on Southland traffic and weather. As a Latina, she was usually assigned to host shows and events with Spanish and Latin related topics such as the KTLA special, "Access LA: 'De Todo' Latin Explosion." She has also been assigned to do
red carpet coverage and has been found covering theSouthland 's hottest spots such as "The Imagen Awards" and "The National Hispanic Media Coalition Impact Awards." Furthermore, her weather segment on KTLA has recently won her recognition by the Associated Press with awards such as the Mark Twain APTRA Award for "Best Weather Segment", which was given by the Television-Radio association of California, Nevada and Hawaii.While at KTLA in Los Angeles, Gonzalez was extremely active with the community, she has served as the host in several events such as the annual Breath California awards ceremony and emceeing the National Latin Business Women's Association of Orange County's annual awards ceremony. She also volunteered at KTLA events like the KTLA Toys for the Holidays and KTLA Kids' Day.
Gonzalez continues to sing professionally and for her own pleasure on her free time, and considers singing as her life long passion. She has also stated that her favorite song is "At Last." Other than singing, her other hobbies include dancing, hiking, jogging, rollerblading, and going to the movies.
