Saint Andrew's Episcopal School also known as SAS, is an elite private school located in Austin, Texas, USA. The school is made up of a Lower, Middle, and Upper School, with the Lower and Middle Schools being located in Central Austin, and the Upper School being located off Southwest Parkway. The Middle school recently underwent a major makeover. The Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools are highly praised for their Academics, Athletics, and Music programs. The strength of their academic program is reflected in the school's wide appeal, and in the admission of many of its graduates to selective colleges and universities.

Current head of school is Lucy Nazro. The lower school head is Sharon Wilson, and middle school head is Tim McGhee. The new head of upper school is Richard Michinski.

History

St. Andrew's Episcopal School, named for St. Andrew the apostle, opened its doors in the fall of 1952, serving 32 students in grades 1-3. The school later moved to 31st Street, where the Lower and Middle schools are housed. Expanding to twelve grades, a second campus was opened on Southwest Parkway for the Upper school. The first graduating class, also known as the cornerstone class, graduated in 2002.

Athletics

The St. Andrew's baseball team has been consistent throughout the nearly ten year existence. During the 2008 season they again competed in SPC Division I and had one of the best finishes they have ever had. The season was another success. They hope their 2009 season will be as much of a success as the past two years. They are coached by former Major League Baseball player, Andrew Prater, and assisted by former St. Andrew's student Steven Garcia. The team was highly successful during their 2007 campaign, competing in SPC Division I. The team has a strong rival with St. Stephen's , and have swept them them during both their 2007 and 2008 campaigns.

The Football team is coached by Don Cowan, and after a few rough seasons, the team seems to be getting back on track by recording their best win loss record in school history, and is looking to establish themselves next season. Cowan is assisted by Jay Eckert, former University of Texas player Dakari Pearson and Fred Weber. Recently join the staff is Daniel Kosmetsky. Eckert is known for his Cajun drawl and as a 2 time All Louisiana State selection from John Curtis Christian High School.

The Basketball team is coached by former University of Texas student assistant coach, Jeff McCrary. The team had one of their most successful seasons this year, posting a solid record and beating rivals St. Stephen's for the first time in the school's basketball history. The program is not only praised for its team, but for its highly respected group of fans, the Roundball Rowdies. Led by mostly Upper Classmen, the Rowdies seem to resemble the football firms of Europe and South America, and they're known for their extreme rowdiness, and loyalty and pride to their team.

The Soccer team is coached by former Westlake coach, and Whittier College super star, John Fitzsimons, and assisted by former Austin Lonestars player KC Lienman.

The Boys Varsity lacrosse team just ended their regular season 10-5, the most successful in the history of the school. They have locked the three seed (out of 10 teams) in the post-season tournament to determine the central district champion. Notable wins include an overtime win over SPC rival Episcopal High School (Bellaire), Westlake High School (Texas), and St. Mary's Hall (San Antonio), typically successful programs in Texas.

The Softball team continues to get better every year. They are coached by Lauren Sparrow and former Baltimore Orioles first round draft pick Mamon Tucker. The team made it to Division 1 for SPC this year for the first time in SAS history.

The Track and Field team is coached by world famous runner Gilbert Tuhabonye. They were very successful this past season, finding stars in junior John McNamara and sophomore Elle Moody. McNamara swept all of his events at the SPC track meet, winning the 1600 meter run after being down by 75 meters earlier in the race. Elle Moody finished 3rd in the 3200 meter race. Both received All Conference honors.

The Cross Country team was no less successful. Also coached by Tuhabonye, they did very well at SPC. John McNamara finished second, in a very close race. In the years to come, they may find a break out star in Travis Bishop, who did surprisingly well against older competition as a freshman.

The Girl's Lacrosse team is coached by St. Andrew's Athletic Director Laura Longoria. The team has won the district championship in Austin each year from 2002-2007. The streak was ended this year with a very tough loss against Westwood in the playoffs. Tori Harrison, 4 year varsity player for girl's lacrosse, is going to play lacrosse at Cal Berkley next year as a defensive player.

The Swim team is coached by former UT swimmer Nathan Michaud. This past season, the swimmers did well at SPC, with seniors Ryan Holody and Christine Walsh each swimming well against tough competition.

The Girl's Basketball team is head coached by Darrel Smith and assisted by ex University of Texas basketball player Jody Bell. Although the girls did not have that good of a record, they hope to continue in the years to come.

Middle School sports include: Field Hockey, Football, Volleyball, Lacrosse, Cross Country, Co-Ed Rec Soccer, Basketball, Track & Field, Golf, and Tennis.
